What is Living Water?
Living Water is a way for small groups of believers to meet on a regular basis,
study, pray, and encourage one another to grow in the Spirit and in their
relationship with Christ. Living Water participants dedicate themselves to
spiritual growth and transformation as the Spirit leads them into a more mature
faith. Under the guidance of our Ministry of Spirituality and Prayer, Living
Water groups reflect Duluth First United Methodist Church’s commitment to
nurture spiritual growth in our church family.
Why do we need spiritual growth and transformation?
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to grow in our faith and nurture our
relationships with Him. God created us as both physical and spiritual beings,
and it is through spiritual growth that we mature as disciples. An ever maturing
life of discipleship requires attention, dedication and a determination to
follow Christ more intimately day by day. Jesus took His own spiritual life very
seriously, and we should do likewise. Our community of faith at Duluth First
United Methodist Church rests on a spiritual foundation. We acknowledge Jesus as
the Lord of our lives and always seek to know and serve Him.
Who can be in a Living Water group?
Living Water groups are open to anyone who seeks to grow in the Spirit and to
participate in a supportive Christian fellowship.
How does a Living Water group work?
Groups typically are all female or all male and meet weekly for 1-2 hours. Each
group usually has four to seven members, in order to foster trusting, open
relationships and communication within the group. Confidentiality is observed:
What’s said in the group stays in the group. Groups begin by using A Spiritual
Formation Workbook and move on to other materials chosen by the group that focus
on spiritual nurture and discipline.
What types of resource material are used?
Living Water groups use study guides and workbooks focusing on a balanced
approach to spiritual growth. This includes exploring the six spiritual
disciplines of virtue, living in the Holy Spirit, prayer, wholeness, compassion
and sharing the gospel.
Is Living Water a Bible study?
Living Water is not, strictly speaking, a Bible study. Group study, discussion,
and reflection lead to greater knowledge of the spiritual disciplines, to the
practice of these disciplines, and to mutual encouragement and accountability in
spiritual growth. Group study rests on a biblical foundation and focuses on the
application of biblical principles in daily life.
Do I have to attend the Renovaré conference to
participate in Living Water?
Attending a Renovaré conference is an enlightening, uplifting way to begin your
Living Water journey, but it is not a requirement.
